The debris avalanche -- Castle Lake

The avalanche also blocked the north-flowing Castle Creek, creating a rapidly growing lake that needed to have an emergency outlet constructed to prevent a catastrophic dam-burst flood. The lake today is about 100 feet deep, and is best seen from the Castle Lake overlook, which also provides the best overview of the hummocks.
